When and How to Use Garlic Powder to Get the Best Flavor

Garlic powder is a seasoning that will find a place in any kitchen. It’s very versatile and allows you to enjoy the taste of garlic without hassle. Making a garlic powder seasoning is easy, and you can use the product to flavor many dishes.

Raw garlic powder contains a little bit of vitamin C, zinc, and iron in every tablespoon. Note that this product is different from granulated garlic. Both powder and granulated garlic are made from fresh dehydrated garlic. But the powder is ground to a fine texture. Also, don’t mistake garlic powder for garlic salt. The latter is 2/3 salt and also contains an agent that prevents it from clotting.

Garlic Powder Uses for Cooking

Garlic powder has a wonderful texture. Therefore, you shouldn’t use it the same as other spices to prevent burning if you want to add it to a dish while cooking, do it at the very end.

The best use for this product is making garlic powder seasonings or marinades. Note that the powder doesn’t have the tang of heat that fresh garlic has. It’s also sweeter yet has the distinctive flavor of garlic.

Use 1/8 teaspoon of raw garlic powder to replace a clove of fresh garlic in a recipe. If substituting for granulated garlic, use a teaspoon of powder per two teaspoons of granules.

You can stock up on garlic powder in bulk as long as you keep it dry and away from heat and sunlight. It’s not necessary to store the product in the fridge. In fact, this might be a bad idea because of the humidity. Always make sure the powder is stored in a sealed airtight container.

  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp dried rosemary
  • 1/2 tsp dried basil

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together milk and yeast. Let sit for 5-10 min.

  4. Lightly grease a 9×13 pan and roll dough into 12 balls, creating as smooth a top as possible. Place in a pan with the seam down and cover to let rise for about 30 minutes, until doubled again.
  5. Meanwhile, heat the oven to 350 degrees F.
  6. Bake for 15-20 min, until medium golden brown.
  7. Garlic butter: Stir together melted butter, garlic powder, and mixed herbs and brush over rolls if desired. Serve warm.
