Pine nuts, also known as pignoli, pinon, or chilgoza, are delicious, crunchy, sweet, and exceptionally good for you. They are the healthiest kind of nuts. The fact that they possess rich buttery flavor makes them a great addition to any dish, be it a salad, sauce, or dessert. The vast majority of pine trees that produce these nuts grow in the taiga forests of Siberia and Canada. Chilgoza pine nuts come from the variety of the same tree that grows mostly in India, Pakistan, and Afghanistan.

Nutritional Value

To say that this kind of nut is nutritious would be an understatement. It contains so many essential vitamins and minerals that you can say with confidence its superfood among nuts. Please note that such a tremendous nutritional value comes with a price, 100 grams of dry pine nuts contain 673 calories. Thus, you take this into account when you plan your daily meals to keep your diet well-balanced.

Health Benefits

    • Circulatory system support The vast majority of calories in pine nuts come from “good” unsaturated fats that lower the LDL “bad” cholesterol. These elements help maintain your vessels in good shape, cleanse your body of ‘bad’ fats, and strengthen your cardiovascular system as a whole.
    • Antioxidant protection from free radical damage Pine nuts are an extremely potent antioxidant. They contain significant amounts of vitamin E (62% of the recommended daily amount in 100 g), which is directly responsible for protection against free radicals and supporting cell membranes’ integrity. In simple terms, eating these nuts improves your general well-being and strengthens your body’s natural defenses.
    • Gluten-free fiber source Pine nuts safe for people with gluten sensitivity and those who want to avoid this protein. If you decide to pursue a gluten-free diet to improve your general health and manage weight. Moreover, this particular ingredient will be an excellent addition to your daily meals. The nuts contain lots of dietary fiber and essential nutrients that are essential for achieving your goals.
    • Appetite suppression Pinoleic acid is one of the essential omega-six fatty acids that pine nuts have in abundance. It boosts the production of elements that suppress the feeling of hunger. Therefore, they make a great snack for a weight management meal plan. Furthermore, it also makes pine nuts a perfect snack for hikers who spend extended periods in the wilderness.
    • Bones strength promotion Among all the minerals pine nuts provide your body with, calcium and manganese are essential for bone strength and integrity. Eating these nuts gives a boost to your skeleton. Moreover, it will benefit you as the years go by because human bones become more brittle with age.

Storage and Shelflife

Make sure to store these nuts in an airtight container, refrigerated or in a cool, dry place as any other raw product you come across.

High quality product. I toasted these and made pesto with this year's basil harvest. I'm going to be in heaven right through to nest summer! Very high quality nuts with perfect flavor & texture. Highly resommended!
Good pine nuts. Pine nuts have a slight milky flavor and can fill you up if you eat too many. I love them and use them in several meals and beverages I normally make. All the bags I've gotten have been fresh and great pine nuts right out of the bag each time. Read the health label first if you're on a diet! Seriously. ;) But I love them.

So tasty. Crunchy and a bit sweet. Love them. I am following the Mediterranean Diet which relies heavily on nuts, legumes, fruits, and veggies. One important nut that was listed was pine nuts. I only had them in salads and other meals but I liked them so I decided to buy some for myself. I have purchased items from the Food To Live website and never had an issue so I bought their pine nuts here. These little pine nuts are really delicious. They have an almost sweet flavor and a slight crunch. I only eat a few at a time because they are high in calories (but so very, very heart healthy) and I sprinkle them on my salads or in other meals. They're pricey but they're fresh, all natural, and very tasty. If I had others on the house who ate them as well, I would have bought a bigger amount but the 8 ounce bag will last me quite a while. I have not tried other brands so I honestly cannot compare these pine nuts to others. I can only say that these are fabulous and I plan to continue to buy them.

This was a surprise. Pine nuts are outrageous in the grocery store and I love them. This is an excellent buy and I highly recommend. The nuts were fresh and the quantity is what I hoped for. I have used them in so many dishes now have to re-order. They were excellent. I tried them in couscous, sauteed spinach, stuffing, rice and cookies. Instead of Basil in pesto use pine nuts, chives, garlic and olive oil. Excellent. I bought a bag to bring to my son in Thailand and he has found all types of dishes there to use them. They toast up nicely and you only need a minute. I have ordered twice and am geting to order every month. .
Great Product! I have bought various brands of Pine Nuts on Amazon and these are absolutely the best I have bought. They are just a bit more in price then the others but the the high quality makes it totally worth it. They are much larger then others I have purchased and taste delightful (sweet and not bitter). In the past I have just looked for the least expensive pine nuts, but I will never do that again-I will stay with Food to Live Pine Nuts. I never realized before how much quality can vary with pine nuts!
