As you may have already know there are two main types of Jasmine Rice: white and brown. Brown Jasmine Rice has just the outer inedible hull removed while the bran layer and germ stay intact. Compared to White Jasmine Rice, this variety is more nutritious and a bit more flavorful. Jasmine Brown Rice has a pleasant nutty taste, chewy texture, and upon cooking – stays separate and fluffy.

Jasmine Brown Rice Culinary Uses

This rice cultivar is an excellent pantry staple thanks to its versatility. Use it for rice pilafs, stir-fries, rice bowls, soups, risotto, Thai curries, and chutney salad. Moreover, our fragrant brown rice works amazing as a side dish to meat, veggies, fish, and various stews, and sauces. Also, any long-grain rice (for example, White or Brown Basmati, White Jasmine) can be substituted with Jasmine Brown Rice. It works great in recipes that require firm rice, that isn’t sticky.

Recipes

Ingredients for Brown Rice Pumpkin Pilaf:

  • ½ cup brown rice
  • 1 cup vegetable broth or water
  • 1/3 tsp salt
  • ½ cup pumpkin, cut into small cubes
  • 1 small red onion, diced
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 3–4 mushrooms of choice
  • 1 tbsp unsalted butter
  • a handful of organic baby spinach stems removed
  • freshly ground black pepper to taste
  • 1 tbsp dried cranberries

Instructions

  1. Begin by cooking the rice in the broth or water in a small saucepan. Bring it to a boil, then immediately reduce the heat to a simmer and simmer for 15 min. Once the 15 min is up, lift the lid and add the spinach to wilt. Cover for 5 min and fluff with a fork.
  2. Meanwhile, as the rice is cooking, add the butter to an already hot pan. Add the pumpkin, red onion, garlic, and mushrooms. Cook for 5 min stirring very little so the veggies can caramelize.
  3. Add the rice to the veggies and season with black pepper. Top with the dried cranberries and enjoy!
