There aren’t many brands that offer Purple Rice for sale, as this cultivar is one of the rarest. Luckily, we do! Purple rice / Riceberry rice originates from Asia and is one of the oldest rice varieties. Unlike Black Rice, it doesn’t retain its color and becomes purple-tinted when cooked. What’s great is that you can use Purple Jasmine Rice as a substitution for any other rice type.

Taste and Culinary Uses

Thai Purple Rice has a very pleasant aroma and its texture is slightly crunchy. Unlike Purple Sticky Rice, the seeds stay separate after being cooked. Though its texture really depends on the cooking time and the amount of water used. Purple Rice taste is somewhat earthy and nutty but rather mild, so you shouldn’t be worried that it will drastically change the flavor of your usual meals. Purple Rice uses are extremely diverse. It perfectly absorbs stews, herbs, and sauces, therefore, works amazing as a side dish. Moreover, you can use this type of rice in stir-fries, bowls, and salads. Its distinctive hue will certainly make any meal more appealing and interesting.

Purple Rice Nutritional Profile
