What is Organic Parboiled Brown Rice? What is it known for? How does it differ from other rice varieties? We are here to answer it all! 

Parboiled stands for “partially boiled”, and as the name implies, this rice variety is partly cooked. Another word for parboiled rice is converted rice or “easy cook” rice. Parboiling includes 3 basic steps: soaking, steaming and drying the rice. Unlike regular rice, where the outer inedible layer was removed before processing, parboiling implies a hull to be retained. This process forces essential nutrients from the outer inedible bran to get inside the grains. After parboiling, the inedible part is being deleted. 

Organic Parboiled Long Grain Brown Rice has a subtle nutty flavor and cooks up fluffy and less sticky compared to its closest substitutes: white and brown rice. Except for taste and texture, the main difference between them is cooking time: converted rice will take 20 minutes to be cooked while regular kinds of rice take up to 40 minutes.

In terms of nutrition, Organic Parboiled Brown Rice is better than white rice and contains almost the same minerals and vitamins as brown rice. Among them are B1, B3, B5, and B6 vitamins, Magnesium, and Zinc. Parboiled rice is also a great source of Iron and Calcium.

Cooking Instructions

The ideal ratio for cooking Organic Parboiled Long Grain Brown Rice is 2¼ cups of water to 1 cup of rice.  

For the traditional stovetop method: 

  • Bring water to a boil 
  • Stir in rice 
  • Simmer on low heat covered for 25 minutes or until the water is absorbed 

It will take only 8 minutes for parboiled rice to be prepared in instant pot. Note, if you use a rice cooker, it is designed to turn itself off when the rice is done cooking. 

Enjoy Parboiled Brown Rice as a side dish, serve it with meat or fish, toss it with vegetables, or even fruit! Parboiled Long Brown Rice works especially well in dishes that don’t need to be mashed. Use it for rice salads, oven-baked casserole, fried rice, and rice pilafs.
