Green peas are good for you, everyone knows that. Alas, quite a few people make the mistake of dismissing this particular food from their diet just because they don’t know how to cook it well.

Spicy Green Peas

To cook this particular dish you’ll need:

– 3 cups of peas (can use frozen)
– 1 tablespoon of oil
– ¾ teaspoon of cumin seeds
– 2 tablespoons of chopped cilantro
– 2 teaspoons of lemon juice
– 1 teaspoon of chopped green chili
– 2 teaspoons of chopped ginger
– 1 teaspoon of salt

Heat the oil in a saucepan. Then add cumin seeds, ginger, and chili. Stir the mix for a few seconds and add peas with salt and black pepper if you want any. Cook the mix for about 5 minutes then add cilantro. When you are done and the peas become tender, pour lemon juice over the now cooked dish and serve while it’s still hot.

Khoya Matar: Indian Creamy Delight with Green Peas

Note that khoya is a form of traditional Indian dairy product. Therefore, only lacto-vegetarians will be able to enjoy this particular delicacy.

For this dish you’ll need:

– 1 cup of peas
– 250 gm. of khoya
– 1 teaspoon of cumin seeds
– 1 teaspoon of chili powder (kashmiri)
– 1 teaspoon of ginger paste
– 1 cup of freshly pureed tomatoes
– 1 teaspoon of salt
– 1 teaspoon of garam masala (spice)
– Coriander
– Water

Heat the saucepan and put the cumin seeds in it. Wait until the seeds crack and add ginger and tomatoes. Sauté the mix for several minutes. Next, add the peas, salt, and spices. Cook the peas until they become tender. Then, add khoya and water. Let the mix simmer for a bit. Serve garnished with coriander and graham masala.

Green Peas Kebab

To cook this particular dish you’ll need:

– 1 cup of peas (frozen)
– ¼ cup of finely chopped onions
– ½ inch of ginger
– 5 green chilies
– 12 cashew nuts
– 2 teaspoons of chickpea flour
– 2 tablespoons of chopped coriander
– ¼ cup of crushed cornflakes
– 3 tablespoons of oil
– 1 teaspoon of lime juice
– 1 pod of garlic

Wash the peas, drain the water and crush them in a blender along with cashew nuts. Add green chili, garlic and ginger and crush them as well. Transfer the paste into a bowl and add spices along with lime juice. Mix everything well. Form small cylindrical shapes from the paste.
Heat up a frying pan, add some oil and start frying your kebab until it turns golden. Serve while it’s hot.
